The 2023 UCI Mountain Bike World Cup lands in the USA for the penultimate round of the season. The classic Snowshoe, West Virginia, venue has seen plenty of mountain bike racing over the years, and today, the Junior classes kicked off the official competition with qualifying. Course conditions were slick in the woods, but drying, and if Vital's Youth Gone Wild video (below) is any indication of how fast the racers were going in qualifying, race day should be even more spectacular.
Erice Van Leuven returned to form, shattering the rest of the times in the Junior Women's field. She raced a 4:07.743 which was nearly 15 seconds ahead of second place Lisa Bouladou. From there on, however, the competition was incredibly close with 2nd through 6th only separated by one second with Transition Factory Racing teammates, Taylor Ostgaard in 3rd and Valentina Roa Sanchez in 4th. Rebeka Kenyon rounded out 5th.
#USDH ripper, Ryan Pinkerton, keeps up his winning ways by taking a first place qualifying run in Junior Men. He was followed by fellow American, Evan Medcalf in 2nd place, just two seconds off the pace with Hugo Marini in 3rd. Chris Hauser was injured in practice after hitting a tree and won't compete this weekend.
