April 12-14th brought DH racing back to the PNW in always-sunny Port Angeles! Luckily the sun actually did decide to come out to play on Saturday and Sunday for our opening round and, as always, the NW Cup provided some amazing racing, great vibes and an awesome atmosphere. Partaking in the competition were 558 downhill racers ready to challenge the track and the clock!
With it being the early season, and the weekend right before Sea Otter, Canada decided it would send a bunch of heavy hitters down to play on some classic NW Cup trails...and they definitely showed us what's up. A full Canadian sweep of the Women's podium was capped off with ALN taking the Pro Women's win, and Jakob Jewett speeding to the Pro Men's top spot on his prototype Pivot DH bike. Jr. Men 17-18 also had a Canadian invasion with Dylan Marino taking the top spot. #USDH didn't falter completely with the Mallen brothers taking 1 and 2 in Jr. 16U and Aletha Ostgaard winning the Jr. Women's category.
As expected though, it's the crop of amateur riders from Cat 3 Boys 7U all the way up to Cat 2 60+ men that keep the party going in the PNW. They make our NW Cup races as special as they are! Whether cheering on the young kids, to sitting around fire pits, the NW Cup is a special family, and we are back together again for the 2024 season! We can't wait to see everyone again in May!
